As Pretty as a Jewish Girl Can Be
July 18, 2008
They were at a café.
She was sitting alone, sipping some ordinary coffee and looking miserably unhappy.
He was accompanied by Maurice Druon’s La Derniére Brigade, (in French), and a tall, thick, rich cappuccino.
The girl was pretty*, young and alone. He was bored.
He thought of approaching her every once in a while, leisurely, deciding against it each time. Until he came to a point in the book where young Frenchmen about his age were fighting against tall and strongly built Germans. Then he finally made a move.
*When I asked him whether she was pretty, he answered: as pretty as a Jewish girl can be.
P.S: Maurice Druon’s book can be bought at Livraria da Vila, in Sao Paulo, for less than R$ 20.
